We have working diligently on a new writing unit that focuses on how to give an opinion about a topic. Over the past few weeks, we have been studying reviews written by students covering a range of different topics from movies and games to restaurants and tourist attractions. We have also begun to write our own opinion pieces.
We are learning that the keys to a great review are as follows:
Choosing a topic that we are excited about (movie, book, restaurant, game, etc.)
Hook the audience by using a catchy "beginning"
Provide at least three key reasons for why we liked (or didn't like) something (Example: Restaurant--the atmosphere, the food, and the service)
Give at least 3 examples to support each reason we chose
Wrap up our review with a great conclusion that ties up loose ends and gives our recommendation (or "star" rating)
We can't wait to share the writing we have been developing with you! :-)
